From a net loss of Rs 5 bn in FY01 to a profit of Rs 8.1 bn in FY04, the company has come a long way. It recently acquired the CV division of South Korean auto major Daewoo, which would help the company to augment growth in the higher tonnage CVs.

Telco is the largest CV manufacturer in the country with a commanding market share of 78%. The company ventured into the passenger car segment in FY97. While CVs contributed to 68% of its revenues, the passenger car division accounted for 37% with the remaining coming from financial services and others in FY02. Compared to Ashok Leyland and Volvo, the key competitors, the company's strength lies in a nation-wide distribution and after sales service network. After initial hiccups on the passenger car front, Telco has managed to turnaround the division in FY02.

Its plants are located at Pune, Jamshedpur and Lucknow. Telco also manufacturers passenger cars and has an 8% market share.
