India's Urbanisation Megatrend
Oct 30, 2019

Every minute, around 30 people migrate within India from rural to urban areas. The reasons vary from better opportunities, education or a better quality of life.

Urban population is expected to form 39% of the total population from 31% in 2010.

For India's large population base, this is a significant shift. With millions shifting to urban areas, the consumption levels are bound to increase multifold. As this population moves to the higher income brackets, they will consume 2-3 times more on essential items.

Think food, apparel, gadgets, and housing. Also, ownership of white goods like washing machines, AC's, automobiles, etc will get a big boost.

I keep a close watch on India's urbanisation and how it's playing out. It's one of the key megatrends I follow in the Rebirth of India.
