Century Textiles has posted a net profit of Rs 345 m for the year ended 31st December. However, the profits are largely on account of extraordinary income and alteration in other accounting practices (pertaining to depreciation largely).

Birla Corporation has posted a sharp improvement in operating profits during the financial year ended 31st March 2000. The company has benefited from better operating margins as realizations grew faster than costs. Further more the decline in interest and depreciation expenditure also helped the company in trimming its losses.

DCM Shriram posts 22% decline in net

DCM Shriram Limited has posted a 22% decline in net profits during the quarter ended 31st December 1999. The company has suffered an erosion in operating margins and this has been largely responsible for the decline in profits. The rise in other income and the decline in interest expenditure has failed to arrest the decline in profits.

Birla Corporation has posted a 14.4% decline in net during the quarter ended 31st December 1999. The company has suffered on account of a rise in expenditure and an increase in interest expenditure. The company has however been able to trim its losses.

Rallis posts 13% decline in net

Rallis (India) has posted a 13% decline in net for the quarter ended 30th September 1999. The company suffered from increase in operating expenditure and higher interest and depreciation expenditure.

Balmer Lawrie maintains status quo in 2QFY2000

Balmer Lawrie has recorded an almost identical performance in the 2QFY2000 compared to the correponding period in 1998. Its net profit is up a measly 1% to Rs 17 m, on the back of a negligible decline in turnover to Rs 1,596 m.

Century sinks deeper into losses

Century Textiles posted loss of Rs 295 m in 2QFY2000. This is despite the fact that sales improved by 2.2%, interest and depreciation fell by 7.1% and 1.2% respectively.

Ind Rayon logs in a flat performance

Voltas posts 88% drop in net

L&T finalises Orissa aluminium project

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) will confine its stake in the Orissa aluminium project to 26 per cent where the partner is tipped to be Billiton of South Africa. Two other world majors, one of which is rumoured to be Picheney of France, are in the running too but the mandate may go to Billiton, reports the Financial Express.
