The two types of gold investors

Here is today's recommended reading list from Equitymaster...

The real reason why India and China banned bitcoins...
The banking regulators in India (RBI) and China have clamped down on the usage of bitcoins and other virtual currencies. That such virtual currencies are not backed by any real assets was the obvious threat. But it seems there is more to it behind the central bank's prohibition. As per an article on Marketwatch, the larger problem is Bitcoin's mobility. As we know, virtual currencies can be easily acquired in one country and exchanged immediately in another. They are not bound by foreign-exchange laws and are beyond government control. It therefore seems that the government and central bank in India were wary of bitcoins being used to smuggle gold. What other than this could be the reason for ban on bitcoins? Read on to find out. (Marketwatch)

Various methods of arriving at intrinsic value of a stock
There are basically two valuation methodologies used to arrive at the fair value of a stock - relative and absolute. Relative valuation engages in company comparison while absolute valuation entails discounting the cash flow of the business. The absolute valuation method uses various inputs like cost of capital, growth rates and risk free rate to arrive at the fair value and hence is more prone to subjective errors. The current article explains how to eliminate such errors by eliminating biases. Apart from that, it also highlights valuation methodologies used by great value investors like Graham and Peter Lynch. Read on to find out more about it. (Gurufocus)

The two types of gold investors
The price of gold, measured in dollars has fallen steeply in the last two years. It hit a peak above US$ 1,900 in late 2011. However since then, its price has fallen to US$ 1,200. Does this mean that gold is a bad investment? Certainly not! As this insightful article explains, people invest in gold for either one of two reasons. It could be for speculation or for wealth preservation. Being clear about the reason for investing in the yellow metal is very important. Read on to find out more. (Safehaven)
