Toyota Kirloskar plans to introduce a passenger car by next year, production for which will commence in the next expansion phase.
Toyota Kirloskar made a break in the Indian auto segment with the launch of Qualis - a multi utility vehicle (MUV).
With the runaway success of the Qualis, the company is now undertaking a study for launching a new model. The company is tentative about the exact model of the passenger car, which could be a small car or a mid-sized car. A firm decision would be arrived at by the year-end and the company plans to roll-out the new model by next year. This was reported by a leading financial newspaper.
As reported by a financial daily earlier, the Qualis has already sold 1,000 units in its very first month and had firm orders for 4,500 units. With robust demand for the Qualis, the company has now outlined plans to hike production level from 1,100 cars a month to 2,200 cars. It plans to start the second shift from May 2000.
The Toyota brand has received a tremendous boost in the country with the launch of the Qualis. If Toyota-Kirloskar continues in this vein supported by an expansive distribution and spare parts network spanning the country, consumers are likely to show strong buying interest in its new passenger car when its rolls out next year. But the price of the car will be crucial regardless of the fact whether it's a small car or a mid-sized car.
