The Indian share market, with Sensex and Nifty, bounced back into positive territory today, after opening sharply lower. The initial fall was driven by weak metal and auto stocks, which pulled the market down at the start of the session.
At the time of writing, the BSE Sensex was trading 129 points higher at 83,406. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty was 25 points higher at 25,710.
Today, the company's share price dropped by 4%, catching the attention of market watchers.
Shares of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd (GMDC) declined 4% today, and its Q3 results explain why.
The company's revenue from operations decreased 11.3% to Rs 5,790 million (m), compared to Rs 6,530 m in the same period last year Q3 FY25. GMDC reported a net profit of Rs 1,330.6 m, down 10%, compared to Rs 1,476.6 m in the same period last year.
This could be one of the main reasons why the share price is falling.
Moving forward, the Union Cabinet recently approved a Rs 15 billion incentive scheme under the National Critical Mineral Mission to promote the recycling of important minerals like lithium, cobalt, copper, nickel, and rare earth elements.
The six-year scheme, from FY26 to FY31, aims to develop at least 270 kilo tonnes (KT) of annual recycling capacity. This will result in about 40 KT of annual critical mineral production.
GMDC is already moving forward with its plans to establish a complete rare earth elements (REE) value chain. This includes mining, processing, separation, and manufacturing.
The company is also setting up a major rare earth processing hub in India, supporting the government's broader goal of ensuring a steady and self-reliant supply of critical minerals.
Also, GMDC has received an indigenous rare earth processing technology from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for its Ambadungar Rare Earth Project, enabling the production of Mixed Rare Earth Concentrate from hard rock ankeritic ore.
GMDC remains focused on disciplined execution, operational alignment and future-oriented growth as it expands its fuel portfolio.
