Crisil looks forward to better times

There have been concerns expressed about Crisil’s lack of growth in terms of both turnover and profits. While the turnover has declined by 7% for FY2000, the net profit has stagnated. The stock is quoting at Rs 399 (April 19, 2000) near to its yearly low of Rs 360. The Managing Director of Crisil Mr. R Ravimohan at a recently held analysts meet clarified that since the overall investment in the economy had declined over the past two years, the number of issues to be rated had gone down. Crisil however maintained a 51% share of the number of issues rated. In terms of value, this worked out to 57%.

During the year, the company ventured into other rating of educational institutions part from making inroads into subordinated debt issues of foreign banks. These initiatives should stand it in good stead in the coming year as and when the fresh debt issues are made.
