    Mutual Fund Rankings May 2001

So many funds so little time! Just like the equity investor, the mutual fund investor too has to make some hard choices. And again just like the equity investor, more often than not, the mutual fund investor is not competent enough to make that choice. We decided to simplify the selection process for our visitors, so that mutual fund investing becomes a fruitful exercise rather than a dreadful one.

    Open ended, Growth NAV(Rs) 12-months
    JM Basic 9.3 15.4%

We decided to rank mutual funds based on 12-month absolute returns. (NAVs as on May 14, 2001). We understand that investors do not have the time or the patience to sift through endless fund fact sheets, calculate returns on net asset value (NAV), meet up with fund managers and chief investment officers, understand the investment strategy, understand the potential of the companies in fund portfolios, meet the management of those companies, etc. It’s a very long process that requires a dedicated team of analysts to understand, analyse and finally give a view.
