Pharma, FMCG funds look attractive..and safer

May 19, 2000

All this bashing of technology, media, telecom (TMT) stocks has made investors realise one very important point - portfolios driven by TMT can go down just as fast as they can go up. Against this backdrop, pharma and FMCG funds look a whole lot safer.

UTI Sector Fund - Pharma 9.5 -4.9% -15.1% 0.0% -20.3%

So is this a case for entry into pharma and FMCG funds? Yes, considering the growth potential of these sectors and the huge correction in TMT stocks, which is showing no signs of abating.

Magnum Sector Funds - FMCG 8.5 -2.9% -13.1% 0.0% -18.1%

While pharma and FMCG funds haven't shown any growth to write home about, yet the decline in their net asset values (NAVs) is much lower as compared to that of technology funds. As a matter of fact, NAVs of pharma and FMCG funds are very low and look attractive for investors who want to enter low.
