Indian markets were trading higher today, 9 June 2025 driven by RBI's accommodative policy and positive domestic factors.

The BSE Sensex was trading with gains of 381 points at 82,570 points. The NSE Nifty was up 133 points at 25,136 points.

The Nifty Bank index hit an all-time high above 57,000, led by strong performances from banking stocks like Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, and IndusInd Bank.

Sectoral indices mostly traded in green, with notable gains in IT, PSU banks, private banks, auto, and metals. Pharma and realty showed mixed performance.

A stock that has been rallying for the last few days is Jio Financial Services. Let's tell you some reasons for the same.

#1 Regulatory Approval for JioBlackRock Mutual Fund

The market regulator recently approved the launch of mutual fund operations by JioBlackRock Asset Management Pvt Ltd, a 50:50 joint venture between Jio Financial Services and US-based BlackRock Inc.

This approval is seen as a growth catalyst for the company. The venture aims to offer a digital-first investment platform combining Jio's local market expertise and BlackRock's global investment management capabilities.

This development has boosted investor confidence in Jio Financial's future earnings potential.

The share price has seen strong buying interest as a result.

#2 Mutual Fund Buying

Mutual Funds have been gradually hiking their stake in the company. While this may not have been an immediate trigger for the stock, it is a positive indication.

Mutual Fund Stake

Quarter Ending Stake %
Sep-24 4.17%
Dec-24 5.13%
Mar-25 6.58%

While mutual funds held a stake of just 4.17% in September 2024, their stake was 6.58% by the end of March 2025. This is a significant hike over a six month period.

What Next?

Jio Financial Services operates through subsidiaries in lending (NBFC), payments bank, insurance broking, payment solutions, leasing services, and asset/wealth management via its joint venture with BlackRock. The subsidiaries have all begun scaling up their businesses.

Jio Insurance Broking has tied up with several insurers. It currently offers as many as 61 plans across life, health and motor insurance directly to customers.

Jio Payments Bank has seen substantial growth in its customer base which has tripled year-on-year to 2.31 million.

The NBFC, Jio Finance, has grown its assets under management significantly to Rs 100.5 bn as of March 2025, compared to Rs 1.73 bn as of March 2024.

Jio Finance now has a comprehensive portfolio of secured products. This includes corporate offerings such as vendor financing, working capital loans, term loans, and factoring.

The company has also introduced retail products such as home loans, loan against property, loan against mutual funds, and loan against shares. Now that the mutual fund business has received approval, various schemes should roll out shortly.

Thus, businesses are taking shape and growing under Jio Financial Services. This is likely to gather pace in the coming years. This should boost revenue growth at the company. Having said that, the stock has run-up sharply in the last few months.
