The year 2026 has been marked by global economic and geopolitical challenges, including persistent inflation, volatile energy prices driven by Middle East tensions, and trade-related uncertainties weighing on economic growth. Despite these headwinds, India's electric vehicle (EV) industry has emerged as a standout performer.
The sector has witnessed remarkable growth this year, supported by rising fuel prices, a broader range of EV models, improving charging infrastructure, and expanding dealer networks.
The momentum continued in July, with India's EV registrations surging over 66% year-on-year to around 3,30,000 units, compared to just under 2,00,000 units in July 2025. Against this backdrop, several automakers reported robust sales growth during the month.

The strong momentum was also visible in July. TVS reported electric two-wheeler sales of 60,934 units, up 158% from 23,605 units in July 2025, making it one of the fastest-growing players in the segment.
To support future demand, TVS is expanding its electric three-wheeler production capacity from 20,000 units to 30,000 units, with a significant share dedicated to EVs.
