The Indian auto industry is known for its rapid growth and evolving consumer preferences. With increasing demand for two-wheelers and electric vehicles (EVs), companies are constantly innovating to stay ahead.

Bajaj group company Bajaj Auto is one of the most reputed names in the Indian auto industry. It manufactures motorcycles, scooters, and three-wheelers and exports to over 70 countries.

However, despite its solid track record and importance, its shares have faced challenges lately, leaving investors puzzled.

Today, the company's share price fell 8%, hitting an intraday low of Rs 9,895.40 at 1.00 pm.

So, what caused this sudden fall? Is it just a temporary blip, or is there a bigger story behind it? Let's dive in and find out.

# Weak September Sales

Shares of Bajaj Auto came under pressure after the company reported weaker-than-expected sales for September 2026. This also weighed on the broader auto sector, with the Nifty Auto index falling around 4.4%.

Bajaj Auto's domestic two-wheeler sales declined 12% year-on-year to 240,000 units in September, down from 273,000 a year earlier. The weak domestic sales raised concerns about demand in the two-wheeler market.

However, the company's exports provided some support, with two-wheeler exports rising 34% to 212,000 units during the month.

Commercial vehicle sales also improved, with total sales rising to 86,949 units, up from 79,651 units in September 2025.

Overall, the decline in domestic two-wheeler sales and weaker-than-expected September numbers appear to be the key factors pressuring Bajaj Auto shares.

What's Next for Bajaj Auto?

Looking ahead, management has guided for sustained growth across its segments, aiming to outpace the industry in the 125 cc-plus and 150 cc-plus domestic motorcycle categories through new product launches and brand development.

In terms of exports, the company expects to push volumes to over 220,000 units per month, driven by leadership in Latin America and an outreach in commercial bikes.

On EV growth guidance, management expects the electric categories in both 2-wheelers and three-wheelers to see continued, potentially accelerating growth despite broader market softening, as consumers seek to reduce operating expenses.

The company plans to deepen its EV leadership by launching an all-new Chetak model early next year, expanding its exclusive retail network, scaling up its newly introduced E-Rickshaw brand 'Riki', and resolving recent supply chain constraints to unlock further unserved demand and growth in electric three-wheelers.

How Bajaj Auto Share Price Has Performed Recently

Bajaj Auto shares have declined 11.4% in the past five trading sessions but remained up 16% over the past year.

The stock touched its 52-week high of Rs 12,470 on 1 September 2026 and its 52-week low of Rs 8,490.10 on 3 October 2025.
