Investment gurus are sought after because many investors look for guidance to navigate the complexities of the markets and to avoid emotional mistakes that often lead to poor investment decisions.

However, it is also important to critically evaluate the advice of investment gurus, as not all recommendations suit individual investment goals, risk profiles, or time frames.

One esteemed investor whose every investment garners attention is Vijay Kedia. Recently he picked a stake in a smallcap transport services stock. Before we share the details, allow us to provide some background on the individual himself.

Who is Vijay Kedia?

Vijay Kedia is a stalwart in the world of Indian stock market. Widely regarded as a market maestro, his reputation for selecting winning mid-cap and small-cap stocks has made his portfolio a guidepost for many retail investors.

Having begun his stock market journey at the age of 19, Kedia's fascination with the financial world stems from his roots in a family of stockbrokers. By 33, he established Kedia Securities, cementing his place in the investment world.

Which Stock Did Vijay Kedia Buy and Why?

Vijay Kedia has picked a stake in Global Vectra Helicorp. The quantity he currently holds is 0.68 million (m) shares. The aggregate value of his holdings is Rs 135 m.

Period Sep-25 Jun-25 Mar-25
Holding % 4.90% 3.00% 4.90%

Vijay Kedia currently holds a 4.9% stake in the company as at the end of September 2025. He held a similar stake in the March 2025 quarter, but, sold a part of it during the June quarter.

While the reasons for his buying a stake remain unclear, here are a few points that can explain the decision.

#1 Improving Financial Performance

Over the years Global Vectra has been able to improve its financial performance. Since FY23, the company has been gradually reducing its losses, while revenues have been climbing steadily.

In FY23, the company reported revenues of Rs 4,111 m with losses of Rs 166 m. In FY25, the revenues surged to Rs 5,422 m with net losses narrowing to just Rs 7 m.

The improvement in the financials, with hopes a complete turnaround may have led Vijay Kedia to pick a stake in the company.

#2 FII Stake

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) have also picked up a stake in the company. Prior to June 2025, they did not hold a stake in Global Vectra Helicorp.

However, data for the quarter ending September 2025 reveals an FII stake of 0.08% in the company.

What Next?

Global Vectra Helicorp provides offshore helicopter services to several major oil and gas companies.

ONGC has leased helicopters from Global Vectra. It's a major user of their helicopter services, especially for offshore oil and gas installations.

Global Vectra also serves other clients in the oil and gas sector.

With oil and gas companies expanding exploration and deep-sea drilling activities along India's eastern (including Andaman) and western coasts, there is a growing demand for long-range helicopters capable of supporting extended offshore missions.

Global Vectra Helicorp is positioned to respond to this need by evaluating the potential deployment of advanced rotorcraft.

A few customers contribute substantially to revenue of the company, with ONGC forming the bulk. However, this risk is mitigated by limited competitors and the company's top market position.

Global Vectra Helicorp has important market positioning but needs to report a turnaround in financial performance.

How Shares of Global Vectra Helicorp have Performed
