Top 5 Stocks Mutual Funds Bought and Sold in November 2022

As Indian share markets continued to remain on the edge tracking the pace of rate hikes by central banks, the month of November 2022 saw a sharp drop in mutual fund inflows.

Inflows into equity mutual funds for November 2022 came in at Rs 22.6 billion (bn) as against Rs 93.9 bn recorded in October 2022.

This is a sharp drop of 76% on a sequential basis which took inflows to a 21-month lows.

Apart from the uncertainty surrounding rate hikes, people took off some money on the back of festive season and as markets rallied to record levels in November.

chart

The net assets under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry stood at Rs 40.5 trillion (tn) as on 30 November 2022.

Within the equity category, thematic funds segment saw the biggest inflows at Rs 13.8 bn, while the largecap fund segment saw the highest net outflow of Rs 10.4 bn. This was largecap funds' worst outflows in 22 months.

Debt funds saw net inflows of Rs 36.7 bn in November 2022 compared to net outflows of Rs 28.2 bn in October.

Inflows in the debt fund segment has remained volatile for quite some time now. They could stabilise once the RBI rate hikes stabilise.

Index funds saw inflows of Rs 86.1 bn as investors preferred to stick to low-cost index funds.

Gold ETFs saw an outflow of Rs 1.9 bn. Experts attributed this outflow to profit booking amid the rally in the markets and gold demand in the households for the prevailing wedding season.

Now coming to SIPs...

Inflows through systematic investment plans (SIP) rose to a record and stood at Rs 133.1 bn. This compared with previous month's inflows of Rs 130.4 bn.

The number of new SIPs increased by 2.2 million (m).

Going by SIP inflows in the first eight months of current calendar year, the industry is set to breach record SIP collections of the previous year. SIPs have been in favor among retail investors. If anyone asks where to invest in mutual funds, they'll refer the SIP route hands down.
