ECB Decision; Key Q3FY19 Results and Top Stocks in Action Today

On Thursday, the Indian share markets snapped out of their two-session losing streak, ending a tad higher led by a sharp rally in YES Bank.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex stood higher by 86 points (up 0.2%) and the NSE Nifty closed higher by 18 points (up 0.2%).

Yes Bank and Reliance Industries were the top gainers, while Tata Motors, Power Grid, and Bharti Infratel lost the most.

Top Stocks in Focus

Dr. Reddy's Lab share price will be in focus today as it announced the launch of Propofol lnjectable Emulsion, USP in the US Market.

Ultratech Cement reported a rise of 6.6% in its net profit at Rs 4.5 billion for the quarter under review as compared to Rs 4.2 billion for the same quarter in the previous year.

Jyothy Laboratories reported 29.9% rise in its net profit at Rs 484.1 million for the quarter under review as compared to Rs 372.8 million for the same quarter in the previous year.

Meanwhile, Colgate Palmolive reported 12.6% rise in its net profit at Rs 1.9 billion for third quarter ended 31 December 2018 as compared to Rs 1.7 billion for the same quarter in the previous year.

Torrent Pharmaceuticals is recalling 16 batches of losartan potassium tablets from the US market due to an unexpected impurity found in an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufactured by the city-based Hetero Labs. The stock will be watched out for today.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Inc., USA (Glenmark) has been granted tentative approval by the United States Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) for Topiramate Extended-Release Capsules, a generic version of QUDEXY XR Extended-Release Capsules.

Results Corner

CDSL, Gruh finance, Maruti Suzuki, Vakrangee, Indian Bank, Nilkamal are among a few companies that will report its Q3FY19 results today.

Global Stock Market Drivers

On Thursday, stocks in Europe rose alongside Asian equities as investors awaited fresh developments on China trade talks or at least more clues on the strength of global growth. The dollar climbed with Treasuries and European bonds.

The yuan held overnight gains before key trade talks next week. The euro weakened as regional economic data fell short of forecasts, adding to the attractiveness of longer-term bonds.

These are some events investors will be watching out for in the coming days:

  • The World Economic Forum, the annual gathering of global leaders in politics, business and culture, continues in Davos, Switzerland.
  • The European Central Bank's monetary policy decision.

Oil Prices Slide

Oil prices declined on Thursday amid lingering concerns over slowing global economic growth that may limit fuel demand and after a surprise build in US crude inventories.

International Brent crude oil futures were at US$60.9 a barrel, down 0.4%, from their last settlement, having closed down 0.6% in the previous session.

US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were at US$52.4 per barrel, 22 cents lower from their last settlement.

After a lull of almost five months, the main line of IPO mart saw its first public offer on Wednesday.

The issue of Xelpmoc Design, an end-to-end technology solutions and support provider, was subscribed 45% on the first day of the bidding process. The IPO is open for subscription till today.
