Indian Indices Extend Gains; Bajaj Auto & Bajaj Finance Surge 4%

Share markets in India are presently trading on a strong note, tracking gains in global peers.

The BSE Sensex is trading up by 641 points, up 1.3%, at 50,200 levels.

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty is trading up by 190 points.

Top gainers in NSE today include Bajaj Auto and Bajaj Finance.

The BSE Mid Cap index is trading up by 1.9%.

The BSE Small Cap index is trading up by 1.3%.

On the sectoral front, gains are largely seen in the automobile sector and power sector.

US stock futures are trading higher today. Nasdaq Futures are trading up by 123 points (up 0.9%), while Dow Futures are trading up by 104 points (up 0.3%).

The rupee is trading at 73.02 against the US$.

Gold prices are trading down by 0.3% at Rs 48,334 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices are trading up by 0.8% at Rs 73,900 per kg.

SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund (ETF), said its holdings rose 0.7% to 1,035.93 tonnes on Monday from 1,028.36 tonnes in the prior session.

Among gold ETFs, HDFC Gold ETF and SBI Gold ETF are among the top gainers today.

In news from the pharma sector, Panacea Biotech is among the top buzzing stocks today.

Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla on Monday offloaded his entire stake in Panacea Biotech amounting to 5.15% shareholding of the firm for Rs 1.2 billion, through an open market transaction.

The shares were picked by Serum Institute of India (SII).

As per BSE block deal data, Poonawalla sold 31,57,034 scrips he held in the firm at a price of Rs 373.85 per share, taking the total deal value to Rs 1.2 billion.

The shares were picked by SII at the same price, through a separate transaction.

As per shareholding data for March 2021 quarter, both Poonawalla and SII were public shareholders in the firm and held 5.15% and 4.98% stake, respectively.

Panacea Biotech share price is presently trading down by 2%.

Moving on to news from the automobile sector, Tata Motors and Tata Motors DVR shares are in focus today.

Shares of Tata Motors are up 3%, while shares of Tata Motors DVR hit a fresh 52-week high of Rs 156, up 3% on the BSE in intra-day trade ahead of its January-March quarter (Q4FY21) earnings.

In today's meeting, the company's board would also consider a proposal for raising funds by way of issue of one or more instruments including convertible securities of any description or debt securities, through preferential issue, private placements, rights issue or any other methods or combination thereof in the domestic and/or international markets.

Note that shares of Tata Motors have risen as much as 6% after rating agency Moody's upgraded the outlook on the company from "negative" to "stable" due to continued recovery in the firm's consolidated revenue and profitability.

Tata Motors is expecting commercial industry sales to grow at 30% plus in FY22, driven by a sharp recovery in the medium & heavy commercial vehicle (MHCV) segment.

The company's subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has a comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) strategy and will transform its entire portfolio to Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), with the glide path towards an electric portfolio by 2030.

Tata Motors share price is presently trading up by 3.5%.

Speaking of Tata Motors, note that on a year to date basis, share price of the automobile manufacturing company is up 62% and over the past one year, it has gained a whopping 301% as can be seen from the chart below.
