Asian stocks fell on Wednesday while oil prices surged as escalating tensions in the Middle East unsettled markets, dimming hopes for an end ?to the months-long war that has pushed commodities higher and stoked inflation worries.

US stocks turned sharply lower on Tuesday as renewed selling in artificial intelligence (AI)-linked shares overshadowed easing oil prices and dragged major Wall Street indices into the red.

Speaking of stock markets, Tanushree Banerjee, Research Analyst at Equitymaster, highlights that the investment thesis for stock exchanges was long considered ironclad due to the powerful network effect.

The liquidity available at exchanges attracted even more participants, creating a strong entry barrier that competitors found difficult to break.

NTPC to Launch EPC Tender for Nuclear Project

State-owned power producer NTPC is set to issue an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) tender worth over Rs 100 billion (bn) for at least two of the four nuclear island units at the Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project in Rajasthan.

According to the management, the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) for the nuclear island EPC package is expected to be released by 15 June 2026. This will be followed by the EPC tender for the turbine generator (TG) island, which is likely to be floated by 30 March 2027.

The project is being developed by Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd (ASHVINI), a joint venture between NTPC and Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL).

The project has already received environmental and forest approvals, and the excavation contract for the first two units has been awarded.

NTPC expects the first concrete pour for the project in August 2027, while the first nuclear unit is targeted to achieve synchronisation by November 2032.

JSW Infra Secures Kolkata Port Terminal Project

JSW Infrastructure (JSW Infra) has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA), Kolkata, for the integrated development of the outer container terminal at Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) under the Kolkata Dock System.

The project, awarded through a competitive bidding process, will be developed on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. It involves the development of two new berths and the reconstruction of five existing berths.

Under the 30-year concession agreement, the project will be implemented in two phases and is expected to add a total container-handling capacity of around 0.93 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), enhancing operational efficiency and supporting rising trade volumes in the region.

NLC India OFS Sees Strong Demand, Fully Subscribed on Day One

The government's offer for sale (OFS) of up to a 3% stake in NLC India witnessed robust demand on the first day, with non-retail investors placing bids worth Rs 41.6 bn.

On Tuesday, institutional investors bid for over 130.3 m shares at an indicative price of Rs 319.06 per share, significantly higher than the base offer size of 24.9 m shares allocated for non-retail investors.

The government is divesting around 4.16 crore shares, representing up to a 3% stake in NLC India, at a floor price of Rs 303 per share through a two-day OFS. The issue will open for retail investors on Wednesday.

The stake sale includes a base offer of 2% along with a 1% greenshoe option to accommodate additional demand in case of oversubscription. At the floor price, the government is expected to raise around Rs 12 bn if the entire issue is subscribed.

The OFS floor price is set at a 9.73% discount to NLC India's previous closing price of Rs 335.65 per share on the BSE.
