Although the benchmark indices opened lower, they traded negative throughout the session and ultimately closed red.

Indian equity benchmarks indices, Sensex and Nifty50 extended losses to the second session as IT and PSU bank shares weighed amid persistent geopolitical tension in West Asia.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex  closed points 238 lower (down 0.3%)

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 50 points lower (down 0.2%)

HCL Tech, M&M, Kotak Mahindra were the top gainers today.

Infosys, HDFC Bank, TCS on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,159 with 123 points lower at the time of writing.

The BSE 150 Midcap index is trading 0.3% higher and the BSE 250 SmallCap index is trading 0.2% higher.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today with telecommunication sector and realty sector witnessed buying. Meanwhile, stocks in IT sector and oil & gas sector witnessed selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 96.2 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 1.06% higher at Rs 1,42,883 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 2% higher at 2,23,406 per 1 kg.

Speaking of stock markets, Rahul Shah, Research Analyst at Equitymaster, highlights the risks of rising valuations as investor money continues to flow into popular stocks and index funds.

He emphasizes that while passive investing is effective, investors should not ignore valuations, as even great assets can become poor investments when bought at excessive prices.

TVS Motors Q1 Business Update

Shares of TVS Motors came into focus after the company reported its Q1 business update.

TVS Motor Company reported a strong performance in the first quarter of FY27, with its standalone net profit rising 51% year-on-year to Rs 11.74 billion (bn), compared with Rs 7.76 bn in the same quarter last year. This marked the company's highest-ever quarterly profit.

The company reported its highest-ever EBITDA of Rs 17.79 bn, registering a 41% year-on-year growth. EBITDA margin improved to 12.8% in Q1 FY27 from 12.5% in the year-ago quarter, supported by improved operational efficiency.

Revenue from operations increased 38% year-on-year to Rs 138.96 bn, compared with Rs 100.81 bn in Q1 FY26. The growth was driven by the company's highest-ever quarterly sales during the period.

TVS Motor's overall two-wheeler and three-wheeler sales grew 28% to 1.63 million units in Q1 FY27, compared with 1.28 million units in the same quarter last year. The company's international business also reported strong growth, with sales rising 33% to 0.47 million units from 0.35 million units in Q1 FY26.

Paytm Q1 Business Update

Shares of One 97 Communications, parent of fintech platform Paytm, came into focus after the company reported its Q1 business update.

The company reported a strong performance in Q1 FY27, with its net profit rising 79% year-on-year to Rs 2.20 bn, compared with Rs 1.23 bn in the same quarter last year. On a sequential basis, profit increased 19.5%.

The company's revenue grew 27.6% year-on-year to Rs 24.48 bn in Q1 FY27, compared with Rs 19.18 bn in the year-ago period. However, other income declined 24.5% to Rs 1.82 bn during the quarter.

Total expenses increased 18.2% year-on-year to Rs 23.83 bn in Q1 FY27, compared with Rs 20.16 bn in Q1 FY26. Despite higher expenses, the company delivered strong profit growth during the quarter.
