Although the benchmark indices opened higher, they traded positive throughout the session and ultimately closed green.

Indian equity benchmarks indices, Sensex and Nifty50 ended the lacklustre session with negligible gains as investors monitored the geopolitical situation in West Asia.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex  closed 273 points higher (up 0.3%)

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 67 points higher (up 0.3%)

Adani Ports, Bharat Elec, Axis Bank were the top gainers today.

M&M, Tech Mahindra, SBI on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,336 with 33 points higher at the time of writing.

The BSE 150 Midcap index is trading 0.3% lower and the BSE 250 SmallCap index is trading 0.8% lower.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today with IT sector and metal sector witnessed buying. Meanwhile, stocks in auto sector and services sector witnesses selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 95.6 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 0.4% higher at Rs 1,42,411 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 0.1% higher at 2,17,618 per 1 kg.

Speaking of stock markets, Rahul Shah, Research Analyst at Equitymaster, highlights the risks of rising valuations as investor money continues to flow into popular stocks and index funds.

He emphasizes that while passive investing is effective, investors should not ignore valuations, as even great assets can become poor investments when bought at excessive prices.

M&M Q1 Results

Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) came into focus after the company reported its Q1 business update.

M&M reported a 33.6% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit attributable to the owners, which rose to Rs 54.55 bn for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, compared with Rs 40.83 bn in the corresponding quarter last year.

Revenue from operations grew 26.6% year-on-year to Rs 575.33 bn in Q1 FY27, up from Rs 454.36 bn in Q1 FY26.

The strong performance was driven by volume growth in the automobile and farm businesses, margin expansion at Tech Mahindra, and improved performance at Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services (MMFSL). The automobile and farm businesses recorded an 18% increase in combined profit, while consolidated profit after tax (PAT) from the services businesses surged 80%.

Asian Paints Q1 Results

Shares of Asian Paints came into focus after the company reported its Q1 business update.

Asian Paints reported a 40% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) increase in net profit to Rs 15.39 bn for the quarter, supported by price hikes of around 12% during the period. Revenue from operations rose 18% Y-o-Y to Rs 105.21 bn.

The company's core domestic decorative paints business, a key metric tracked by investors amid concerns over price increases, recorded 9% volume growth compared with the same period last year. Gross margin expanded by 91 basis points Y-o-Y to 43.6%, primarily due to the absorption of older inventory during the first quarter.

Management reaffirmed its FY27 guidance, expecting 8-10% volume growth and an EBITDA margin of 18-20%, backed by calibrated price hikes, premium product launches, and continued supply chain efficiencies.

Syngene International Q1 Results

Shares of Syngene International came into focus after the company reported its Q1 business update.

Syngene International reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 0.09 bn in Q1, compared with a net profit of Rs 0.87 bn in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

Revenue from operations declined to Rs 7.36 bn from Rs 8.75 bn a year earlier. Total expenses stood at Rs 7.67 bn during the June quarter, compared with Rs 7.91 bn in the same period last year.

The company also recognised an exceptional charge of Rs 0.14 bn towards termination benefits during the quarter.
