Although the benchmark indices opened volatile, they traded negative throughout the session and ultimately closed red.

Indian equity benchmarks indices, Sensex and Nifty50 snapped a four-day winning streak as bank, financial, and IT shares weighed.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex  closed 210 points lower (down 0.2%)

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 159 points lower (down 0.6%)

Trent, Bajaj Finance, Bharat Elec are the top gainers today.

NTPC, HUL, HDFC Bank on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,559 with 106 points lower at the time of writing.

The BSE 150 Midcap index is trading 0.03% higher and the BSE 250 SmallCap index is trading 0.2% higher.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today with IT sector and realty sector witnessed selling pressure. Meanwhile, stocks metal and capital goods witnessed buying.

The rupee is trading at Rs 95.3 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 0.4% higher at Rs 1,43,470 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 1% higher at 2,19,069 per 1 kg.

Speaking of stock markets, Rahul Shah, Research Analyst at Equitymaster, highlights the risks of rising valuations as investor money continues to flow into popular stocks and index funds.

He emphasizes that while passive investing is effective, investors should not ignore valuations, as even great assets can become poor investments when bought at excessive prices.

Greaves Cotton Q1 Results

Shares of Greaves Cotton came into focus after the company reported its Q1 FY27 results.

The firm's consolidated revenue for Q1FY27 stood at Rs 9.74 bn, up 31% year-on-year (YoY). EBITDA came in at Rs 0.56 bn, while operating profit before tax (PBT) stood at Rs 0.27 bn.

In an exchange filing, the company said its Energy Solutions business maintained its growth momentum, posting 21% YoY revenue growth, supported by strong demand from infrastructure, manufacturing, and industrial applications.

The Mobility Solutions business recorded 18% YoY revenue growth, while the automotive engines segment grew 36% YoY. The Engineered Components business reported 14% YoY revenue growth.

UPL Q1 Results

Shares of UPL came into focus after the company reported its Q1 FY27 results.

UPL reported Q1 FY27 revenue of Rs 101.81 bn, up 10.5% year-on-year (YoY), with growth driven by favourable currency movements and better realisations, even as volumes declined 3% during the quarter.

Profit attributable to owners stood at Rs 0.10 bn in the April-June quarter, compared with a loss of Rs 0.88 bn in the year-ago period.

Meanwhile, EBITDA rose 23% YoY to Rs 16.10 bn, supported by price hikes and an improved product mix. EBITDA margin expanded 160 basis points (bps) to 15.8%.

Unimech Aerospace Q1 Results

Shares of Unimech Aerospace came into focus after the company reported its Q1 FY27 results.

Unimech Aerospace reported a 70.9% year-on-year (YoY) increase in Q1FY27 revenue to Rs 1.08 bn, driven by healthy execution across aerospace and precision engineering programmes.

EBITDA rose 98.3% YoY to Rs 0.39 bn, while the EBITDA margin improved to 36.5%, up 510 basis points (bps) YoY but down 658 bps quarter-on-quarter (QoQ). Profit after tax (PAT) increased 45.7% YoY to Rs 0.28 bn.

The company's order book stood at Rs 2.80 bn as of June 2026. Management said the company delivered its highest-ever quarterly revenue, supported by improving customer demand, rising traction in the Precision Components & Assemblies business, the successful integration of Hobel Bellows, and expanding engagements across the aerospace, semiconductor, and energy sectors.
