  • Someone made Rs 3 million in the DMart IPO...without investing in it.

  • Smart Money Secrets special invitation ends tonight!
  • I'm making improvements to the Research Digest.

Did you read yesterday's premium edition of The 5 Minute WrapUp? If not, then read it here. I highly recommend it.

Ankit tells you how a man made Rs 3 million in the IPO of Avenue Supermarts (the company that owns DMart).

The IPO was oversubscribed 104.59 times. The stock had a stellar listing. It debuted at Rs 610 and closed the day at Rs 604.4 on the BSE - up 102% over the issue price of Rs 299. The intraday high was Rs 615.

Let's dwell on this for a moment. How did this man make Rs 3 million?

The lot size of the IPO was fifty shares. Thus, subscribing to one lot meant an investment of Rs 14,950 (i.e. Rs 299*50 shares).

As per the regulations, retail investors can invest a maximum of Rs 2,00,000 in any IPO.
