Infy, HLL: The dark horses

The BSE Sensex closed at 4,086 (up 15 points) and the NSE Nifty closed at 1,299 (up 6 points). The rupee was trading at Rs 46.43 to a dollar.

The buying on the bourses was a mix of both the old and the new economy. Gains in HLL (up 2.3%), ITC (up 1.2%), Infosys (up 3.4%) and Satyam (up 1.7%) contributed around 11 points to the NSE Nifty, On the other hand reverses suffered by oil companies Reliance (down 2%), Reliance Petro (down 0.9%), HPCL (down 2.8%), and others like Tisco (down 5.1%) and SBI (down 1.7%) together contributed to a decline of over 6 points from the Nifty.

It was day to rejoice for cement stocks. After being in the shadows, the key pivotals recorded significant gains. The key gainers were Guj Ambuja (up 5.5%), Grasim (up 4.1%) and L&T (up 1.3%). These three cement majors together added over 1 point to the Nifty's gains.
