Volvo breaks into excavator market

Auto major, Volvo has launched two excavator models, marking its entry in the Rs 30 billion Indian construction equipment market.

Currently, Volvo enjoys a presence in the Indian commercial vehicle (CV) market and operates in the heavy-duty CV segment.

According to a news report in a leading financial daily, Volvo has introduced two models - Volvo EC 290 and EC 210. The models are Euro-II complaint and will be available in different versions from 5.5 tonnes to 46 tonnes. The price range will fluctuate over Rs 2.2 m to Rs 15 m. The company is eyeing 25% market share of the Indian excavator market.

Volvo is among the leading suppliers of construction equipment in the world. The other global giants Caterpillar of USA, Komatsu and Hitachi are already here. This will make the market very competitive. These companies will no longer be able to take the consumer for granted and will be vying for market share by introducing models at competitive prices. Companies with the broadest product range will be able to leverage better. Efficient after sales service will also prove critical.
