BPL's gets Dixons to boost presence in UK market

BPL, India's largest manufacturer of colour television (CTV) has selected Dixons as its channel partner for the United Kingdom (UK) market.

BPL, one of India's largest consumer electronics company, has a presence across a range of segments spanning TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens and alkaline batteries.

According to a news report in a leading financial daily, Dixons has already been sourcing CTVs and alkaline batteries from BPL over the past two years. BPL's CTV brand is being sold under the brand name 'Matsui'. In addition to alkaline batteries and CTVs, talks are in progress for Dixons to source other products from BPL.

The tie-up with Dixons for distribution will push the BPL brand in UK although under the Matsui brand name. Dixons being the channel partners will make a conscious effort to push the brand in that country. With the distribution agreement, there will be an added incentive for Dixons to market Matsui. However, selling CTVs under the Matsui brand may create some confusion in the minds of consumers and will work against its efforts to make BPL a global brand.
