Fill petrol now, pay later

Consumers in 12 major cities in India will soon be able to pay their petrol bills through an innovative Petro Card introduced by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).

The Petro Card, whose operation will be similar to that of a pre-paid card, will be accepted at BPCL retail outlets for purchase of fuel, lubes and convenience items. The company has adopted the smart card technology, which will address security concerns for the consumers. Each card is also provided with a unique personal identification number (PIN), which protects the card from misuse.

The card will come with one time enrollment fee of Rs 250. Once the card is loaded, it can be used to purchase petrol, lubricants or any other product or service available at BPCL outlets. The loading has to be for a minimum amount of Rs 500 and in multiples of Rs 100 thereof. Rewards and membership programs to reward frequent usage of the card will be an added feature of the card.

To cater to the needs of fleet owners, BPCL plans to introduce a variant of the Petro Card, which apart from distinctive advantages of convenience, security and rewards will enable the owner of the fleet to track the movement and performance of the vehicle.
