Ashok Leyland November sales zoom 69%

Medium/heavy commercial major (M/HCV) sold 2,782 units in November 1999, a 69% increase over November 1998.

Ashok Leyland (ALL) is the second largest manufacturer of medium/heavy commercial vehicles (M/HCVs) with 34% market share in September 1999.

Over the period April-November 1999, ALL posted sales of 20,920 units, a growth of 36% over the corresponding period last year. This was reported by a leading financial daily.

In November, ALL's sale of buses to state transport undertakings (STUs) appreciated by 43% to 756 units. Truck sales zoomed more than 100% to 1,870 units.

ALL's impressive 69% growth in November 1999 comes close on the heels of 53% sales growth in October 1999. This indicates that the vibrant growth in M/HCV sales is very much for real. As cement, steel and consumer durables demand continue to be on the upswing, M/HCV sales will continue to head north.
