How To Buy Scrips in Equity Portfolio?

Buy option not only allows you to add new stocks to the portfolio but it also allows you to add more quantity to an existing stock.

Let's look at both these processes one by one.

Note: Buying in this case, does not literally mean purchasing of stocks. Portfolio Tracker will only enable you to update and track your portfolio.

PROCESS - I: ADDING NEW STOCKS TO THE PORTFOLIO

Step 1

Go to Homepage, select the portfolio to which you want to add the stock and click on <Go>.

In our Example we have chosen the 'high returns' portfolio and the Consolidated Holding report.

You will now be directed to the Consolidated Holdings Report of your Portfolio.

Step 2

Click on <Buy>.

You will be directed to the Buy Scrip(s) page.

Step 3

Enter the Scrip name and Click on <Go>. For example, in this case we have added HDFC as the scrip name.

The tracker would extract all those companies that have HDFC in their name. You can select one or more than one stocks simultaneously.

Step 4

Check the checkbox against HDFC Bank and click on <Done>.

Note: You can buy more stocks by clicking on the <Add more scrips> button.

Step 5

Here, you need to add/update the following details before adding the scrip to the portfolio.

  • Buy Date: Select the date on which you bought the stock (click on the calendar icon to select the date/month/year).

  • Buy Quantity: Enter the quantity of stocks bought (in this case, we have entered 100).

  • Buy Price (Rs): It shows the current market price of the stock. If you have purchased your shares at a different price, you can update this entry manually to ensure that the tracker calculates returns correctly.
Tip: You can also add comments, which can be anything- a reminder or a reference point etc. You can duplicate this entry by clicking on Clone and remove it by clicking on Remove.

Step 6

Click on <Submit>.

On clicking on Submit, you will be directed to the Consolidated Holdings Report. At this stage, check that the stock has been added to the portfolio.

In this case, you will find HDFC Bank been added to the portfolio.

PROCESS II: ADDING MORE QUANTITY TO EXISTING SCRIPS

Now, let's assume that you want to add 100 more shares to your Cadila Healthcare scrip.

Step 1

Select Cadila Healthcare by clicking on the corresponding checkbox and click on <Buy>.

Note: You can add multiple stocks simultaneously; all that you need to do is select the companies of your choice by clicking the check box against them.

You will be directed to the Buy Scrip(s) page.

Step 2

Before you enter the quantity you need to enter the following details and click on <Submit>:
  • Buy Date: Select the date on which you bought the stock (click on the calendar icon to select the date/month/year).

  • Buy Quantity: Enter the quantity of stocks bought (in this case, we have entered 100).

  • Buy Price (Rs): It shows the current market price of the stock. If you have purchased your shares at a different price, you can update this entry manually to ensure that the tracker calculates returns correctly.

You will be directed back to the Consolidated Holding Reports page.

You will find that the quantity of Cadila Healthcare stocks has now increased from 1 to 101.
