Why Rahul Shah is the Man of Market
Aug 17, 2018

You may be aware, dear reader, that Rahul Shah has delivered a tremendous outperformance over the market.

As the editor of Microcap Millionaires, a service he has overseen since launch in February 2014, Rahul has delivered a strong 167.1% return on the total corpus.

During this period, the Sensex is up 77%. That's an outperformance of 90.1%.

Anisa Virji, Managing Editor of Profit Hunter and yours truly, wanted to know more about his market-beating formula. What follows are Rahul Shah's frank answers to our questions...

Anisa Virji: Rahul, I'm wondering how you ended up a research analyst! I would have thought you would be an engineer or accountant, maybe?

Rahul Shah: [Laughs] Yes, you're almost right, Anisa. I studied chemical engineering. Then I did my MBA in finance in Mumbai. I was quite enamoured with the idea of a big investment banking career.

Anisa Virji: Yes, didn't you leave Equitymaster for a big investment banking job?

Rahul Shah: I first joined Equitymaster fresh out of university in 2003. But very soon, young and admittedly stupid, I left to pursue my ill-founded dream job at a big Swiss investment bank.

But the reality of it was something else. It didn't take long for me to become disillusioned with the financial establishment. I learned first-hand the truth behind the stereotype of the greedy investment banker.
