What is Nifty 500?

The Nifty 500 index represents the performance of the top 500 companies based on market cap, listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

There's no set criteria so these companies are either from the largecap, midcap or even the smallcap segment. The number of companies present in the index remains fixed at 500.

What is the price of Nifty 500 index live today?

The NIFTY 500 last traded at 23,348.4. It was up 1.2% over its previous close.

Within the NIFTY 500, the top gainers were GODREJ INDUSTRIES (up 16.6%) and J&K BANK (up 14.1%). On the other hand, GUJ. STATE PETRONET (down 6.8%) and SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC INFRA (down 4.9%) were among the top losers.

Can we buy the Nifty 500?

The Nifty 500 index is a collection of stocks and not a security that is traded on any stock exchange. Hence, we cannot buy it directly.

However, there are ways in which one can invest in the Nifty 500 index.

One can invest in index funds or ETFs representing the index or buying future and options for it.

Which are the other important indices one should track?

Well, it depends on what your goals are.

Having said that, the two key indices to track are the BSE Sensex which contains the list of BSE 30 stocks and the NSE Nifty which contains the list of NSE 50 stocks.

However, these two indices are considered to be too large by some, since they only track 30 and 50 stocks, respectively.

For broader tracking, you could use the BSE 200, BSE 500 or even the NSE 200 index.

Some popular market cap based indices include BSE Smallcap index and BSE Midcap index, among others.
