"I will show you how to get rich with safe stocks" - Tanushree Banerjee

Equitymaster Venture

Tanushree Banerjee is the Co-head of research at Equitymaster as well as the editor of three stock recommendation services - StockSelect, Equitymaster's most popular service, Forever Stocks, a service with a curated list of 20 stocks to be bought and held for several years and Equitymaster Venture, a service which recommends Indian stocks in the technology space.

Tanushree believes in the philosophies of the investing legends, Warren Buffett and Benjamin Graham. She staunchly abides by Buffett's 2-Rule Mantra.

Rule No.1: Never lose money.

Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1.

Safe Stocks Guru

She is Equitymaster's guru of investing in safe stocks.

In tune with her commitment to investing safely, her services recommend the kind of safe stocks you could 'bet your retirement on'.

Tanushree has a master's in commerce from Mumbai University and an MBA in finance from SIES Mumbai. She joined Equitymaster in 2004 as a fresher straight out of MBA college and has been with Equitymaster ever since.

Tanushree has over 17 years of experience as a research analyst and editor. She began her career tracking banking stocks and tracking RBI policies. Over time she expanded her coverage to most sectors in the stock market.

To highlight just one instance of her safe stocks approach to investing, Tanushree was among the first analysts in the country back in 2013 to call out the rot in PSU banks and NBFCs in India.

The market eventually woke up to the weak fundamentals of PSU banks in 2015 and NBFCs 2018. Lakhs of investors lost millions but Tanushree's subscribers were safe from the carnage.

Over the years Tanushree has sounded the alarm bell on several investment landmines long before anyone else.

Early in her career she came to the conclusion that Reliance Power was nothing but hot air. She was part of the only team of analysts on Dalal Street that sounded the alarm at the time of the IPO.

The courageous decision to give an avoid view on the IPO protected subscribers from the crash in the stock of Reliance Power.

Another example from a few years ago was when almost every media outlet, financial analyst, and investor was drunk on the story of Vakrangee. The stock had risen 1,000%. Everyone believed it had much more room to grow.

But not Tanushree. She warned her subscribers the company was not what it seemed and a crash was imminent. Within 6 months, the stock plunged by more than 90% and still hasn't recovered.

Another case was IL&FS. The stock crashed 83% from its peak. Tanushree called the bankruptcy of IL&FS long before any other analyst, not to mention the subsequent collapse of the NBFC sector.

Tanushree's Track Record

Over many years, Tanushree has helped shape investing processes at Equitymaster. These processes have been used to recommend the safest and most profitable stocks to subscribers.

Tanushree has enjoyed phenomenal success with her premium recommendation service StockSelect which has a success rate of 73.5% over 18+ years. 7 out of 10 recommendations have been successful.

Some of her big winners are:

  • 3,309% in L&T in less than 8 years
  • 2,740% in Voltas in around 7 years
  • 1,821% in M&M in around 7 years
  • 1,1975% in SBI in 8 years
  • 1,082% in Titan in just 2 and a half years
  • 1,004% in Exide Industries in less than 9 years
