After opening the day higher, Indian market dragged down as the session progressed and ended the mixed.

The Nifty50 and the Sensex pared a significant amount of gains from the day's high as metal, PSU Bank, and realty stocks weighed.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex  closed high by 64 points (up 0.1%).

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 27 points lower (down 0.1%).

HUL, Axis Bank and ICIC Bank among the top gainers today.

ONGC, Coal India and Infosys on the other hand, were among the top losers today.

The GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,180 down by 4 points at the time of writing.

The BSE 150 Midcap index ended 1.3% lower and the BSE 250 Smallcap index ended 1.1% lower.

Sectoral indices were trading mixed today with stocks in power sector and FMCG sector witnessing buying speer. Meanwhile stocks in energy and telecom sector witnessed selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at 95.22 against the US$.

Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 2.1% lower at Rs 149,274 per 10 grams.

Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 1.7% lower at Rs 234,456 per 1 kg.

Wipro Buyback Starts Tomorrow

In news from the IT sector, AI-powered technology services company Wipro will commence its Rs 150 billion (bn) share buyback programme on Thursday, 11 June 2026, allowing eligible shareholders to tender their shares at a premium.

The buyback window will remain open until 17 June 2026.

According to the company's regulatory filing, Wipro plans to repurchase up to 600 m fully paid-up equity shares with a face value of Rs 2 each, representing up to 5.72% of its total paid-up equity share capital.

The Rs 150 bn buyback size constitutes 24.99% and 19.99% of the aggregate paid-up equity share capital and free reserves based on the company's latest audited standalone and consolidated financial statements, respectively, for the financial year ended 31 March 2026.

As per the buyback schedule, the last date and time for receipt of completed tender forms and other specified documents by the registrar is 5:00 PM IST on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.

Hindustan Zinc Slips 4%

Moving on to news from the metal sector, shares of Vedanta Group-backed Hindustan Zinc witnessed sharp selling pressure on Wednesday, falling nearly 4 per cent to an intraday low of Rs 541.25, amid a decline in silver prices due to escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Market sentiment turned cautious after the US launched airstrikes on Iran, which responded with attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, while also claiming to have targeted a US military base in Jordan, according to media reports.

The escalating conflict has increased concerns over global economic stability, inflationary pressures, and commodity market volatility. As a result, silver prices came under pressure, with silver exchange-traded funds (ETFs) declining by up to 5 per cent.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), silver futures for July 3, 2026, fell 1.01 per cent to Rs 236,120 per kg, while spot silver prices were down 0.81 per cent at US$ 64.818 per ounce.

Metal Shares Trade Weak

Moving on, metal stocks witnessed selling pressure on Wednesday, declining by up to 4 per cent during the intra-day session on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), despite a firm broader market.

The Nifty Metal index slipped nearly 2% during intra-day trade. Over the last six trading sessions, the index has underperformed the benchmark Nifty 50, falling around 6% compared with a 0.44% decline in the broader index.

Among individual stocks, Hindalco Industries and Hindustan Zinc dropped nearly 4% each. Other metal companies, including Welspun Corp, Hindustan Copper, National Aluminium Company (NALCO), Vedanta, Steel Authority of India (SAIL), and Lloyds Metals, traded lower by 2-3%.

Asian stocks fell on Wednesday while oil prices surged as escalating tensions in the Middle East unsettled markets, dimming hopes for an end ?to the months-long war that has pushed commodities higher and stoked inflation worries.

US stocks turned sharply lower on Tuesday as renewed selling in artificial intelligence (AI)-linked shares overshadowed easing oil prices and dragged major Wall Street indices into the red.

NTPC to Launch EPC Tender for Nuclear Project

State-owned power producer NTPC is set to issue an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) tender worth over Rs 100 billion (bn) for at least two of the four nuclear island units at the Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project in Rajasthan.

According to the management, the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) for the nuclear island EPC package is expected to be released by 15 June 2026. This will be followed by the EPC tender for the turbine generator (TG) island, which is likely to be floated by 30 March 2027.

The project is being developed by Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Ltd (ASHVINI), a joint venture between NTPC and Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL).

The project has already received environmental and forest approvals, and the excavation contract for the first two units has been awarded.

NTPC expects the first concrete pour for the project in August 2027, while the first nuclear unit is targeted to achieve synchronisation by November 2032.

JSW Infra Secures Kolkata Port Terminal Project

JSW Infrastructure (JSW Infra) has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority (SMPA), Kolkata, for the integrated development of the outer container terminal at Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) under the Kolkata Dock System.

The project, awarded through a competitive bidding process, will be developed on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. It involves the development of two new berths and the reconstruction of five existing berths.

Under the 30-year concession agreement, the project will be implemented in two phases and is expected to add a total container-handling capacity of around 0.93 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), enhancing operational efficiency and supporting rising trade volumes in the region.

NLC India OFS Sees Strong Demand, Fully Subscribed on Day One

The government's offer for sale (OFS) of up to a 3% stake in NLC India witnessed robust demand on the first day, with non-retail investors placing bids worth Rs 41.6 bn.

On Tuesday, institutional investors bid for over 130.3 m shares at an indicative price of Rs 319.06 per share, significantly higher than the base offer size of 24.9 m shares allocated for non-retail investors.

The government is divesting around 4.16 crore shares, representing up to a 3% stake in NLC India, at a floor price of Rs 303 per share through a two-day OFS. The issue will open for retail investors on Wednesday.

The stake sale includes a base offer of 2% along with a 1% greenshoe option to accommodate additional demand in case of oversubscription. At the floor price, the government is expected to raise around Rs 12 bn if the entire issue is subscribed.

The OFS floor price is set at a 9.73% discount to NLC India's previous closing price of Rs 335.65 per share on the BSE.

Indian equity benchmarks indices, Sensex and Nifty50 rose on fag-end buying, with PSU bank, financial, and auto stocks providing support. Risk sentiment also improved as US President Donald Trump said that peace talks are on with Iran after Tehran and Israel stopped exchanging strikes.

At the closing bell on Tuesday, the BSE Sensex  closed points 395 higher (up 0.5%)

Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 119 points higher (up 0.5%)

RVNL Secures New Railway Signalling Deal

Shares of Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) came into focus after the company announced that it has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) worth Rs 2.21 billion (bn) from South East Central Railway for signalling modernization works in the Bilaspur Division.

The project involves replacing old panel interlocking systems with modern electronic interlocking systems and installing related signalling equipment both inside stations and outside along the tracks. It also includes building optical fibre cable huts, signalling and telecommunication service buildings, electrification of these structures, and laying cables across several connected railway sections covering multiple stations.

The work is planned to be completed within 730 days. The company has stated that this is not a related-party deal, and neither its promoters nor promoter group have any interest in the contract.

RVNL is a Government of India-owned company that develops railway infrastructure projects across the country. As of March 2026, the Government holds a 72.84% stake in the company.

HCLTech Launches AI Innovation Zone Collaboration

HCLTech has launched an AI Innovation Zone in Santa Clara, California, in partnership with Google Cloud. This facility will help global companies develop and scale AI applications more easily.

The zone uses Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise platform and focuses on building advanced AI systems, including autonomous AI workflows, robotics-based solutions, and real-world industry use cases that can improve business results.

The center is designed to help HCLTech and its clients design, test, and deploy AI solutions faster and move toward "agentic enterprises," where AI can handle complex tasks on its own.

This initiative builds on the expanded partnership between HCLTech and Google Cloud announced earlier in March. It combines Google Cloud's AI technology with HCLTech's industry expertise to help companies adopt AI at an enterprise level and achieve measurable outcomes.

SML Mahindra Reports May Sales Increase

Shares of SML Mahindra came into focus after the company reported an 11.64% year-on-year increase in commercial vehicle (CV) sales to 1,678 units in May 2026, compared with 1,503 units sold in May 2025.

The company produced 1,729 commercial vehicles in the month, which is 6.86% higher than 1,618 units produced in the same period last year.

Exports also saw strong growth, rising 122.50% to 89 units in May 2026 compared to 40 units in May 2025.

SML Mahindra, formerly known as SML Isuzu, is engaged in manufacturing and selling commercial vehicles and related parts.
