The Tata group has brought out its partner R. R. Donnelley’s 25.37% stake in Tata Donnelley (erstwhile Tata Press) at an undisclosed price. Tata Donnelley is into the business of publishing. It’s product’s include Tata Press Yellow Pages, Tata Press Exporters Pages. The company has ventured into niche magazines such as Overdrive, Better Photography etc.
The diversification into industry based magazines led to apparent differences between the partners since the R. R. Donnelley group was not in favour of further expansion of branded publishing activities but focus on its clients’ communication needs.
Given the significance of the Internet, the company could have launched its products, both the Yellow Pages and the Exporters Pages through a website and spent its advertising budget creating a recall for its site itself. It has taken these steps and this would provide the company with another distribution channel apart from a wider reach.
