Why the registration amount for the same car differs from dealer to dealer:

Usually it so happens that a person intending to buy a vehicle approaches different dealers to get the best deal. He is quoted different amount of registration money for the same vehicle. He understands that the registration amount is dependent on the Ex-showroom price and therefore should remain constant, as the prices are more or less the same.

It so happens that those people who are choosy with whom they want to deal, pay the surplus amount as the registration charges and those who are money-wise and not choosy settle for a deal, which sounds reasonable to them. So is there a third option whereby they can be choosy about the dealer and pay lesser registration charges? There has to be one.

    The third Option:
In case a person wants to take the delivery of his car from a dealer of his choice and at the same time avoid paying surplus registration charges, there is a way out. What the person should do is request the dealer that he would do the registration of his vehicle on his own. The dealers usually donít object to this. If this person consults some registration agent, he would do the needful at a very reasonable amount.

    The Pros:
The registration amount consists of 2 components Ėthe road tax and the service charge. The road-tax for a car is 3.5% for individual registration and 10.5% for company registration.

Most of the dealers charge Rs. 2,500 as the service charge for the compact cars and Rs. 4,000-5,000 for the Luxury cars. If this registration is done through some agent the service charges would be as less as Rs.1,500-1,600 for the compact cars and Rs.2,000-2,200 for the luxury cars. That is we save about Rs.1,000-2,000 if the registration is done through an agent.

    The Cons:
If you donít know a registration agent, you may just end up going twice to the R.T.O. Once to hire an agent and second to collect your Registration copy. Nevertheless you will save your effort and time going to the dealerís place to collect your R.C. book.

Thus we can conclude that it is costlier to get the registration done through a car-dealer as the service charge claimed is exorbitant.
