My Diwali Giving
Oct 25, 2016

Last month, the Hindustan Times wrote a series of articles on the growing incidence of malnutrition deaths in Palghar, a district just 100km from Mumbai.

It is heartening to see the media use its powerful reach to remind the more fortunate ones that we can always pause and make a small difference to someone's lives.

HelpYourNGO works towards bringing financial transparency in the social sector. As we analyse NGO financials we observe some non-profits who do exceptional work. One of these, Fight Hunger Foundation raised Rs 35,000 during the Joy of Giving week through our campaign. There are a few more deserving causes that we highlight, which would greatly benefit by your support. All of them do great work, and we recommend them wholeheartedly, having engaged with them at length.

Ratna Nidhi is a 49-year old organisation which works in the areas of physical disability and helping the impoverished. One of the best known incentives to keep underprivileged children in school is the promise of the midday meal. Ratna Nidhi provides over 4,000 freshly cooked meals each day to school children in Mumbai.

From board rooms to little huts, India talks about empowering women. Project Nanhi Kali translates this intention into words. The non-profit provides after-school classes, schoolbags and other necessities to ensure girl students do not drop out of school. A key element is building awareness and providing counselling to the parents and other stakeholders who prevent the girls from enhancing their education. Rs3,000 will support the ongoing education of one Nanhi Kali for a year.

Abuse comes in many different forms - physical, mental, emotional. And often we find abuse is not restricted to humans but to animals too. Helping these mute creatures who do not have a voice to protest, Thane SPCA, a 14-year old organisation has worked hard to bring animals back to their natural habitat. Donate Rs1,000 and see a double benefit - fewer strays on our roads and you will have helped a poor creature who struggles for food and shelter.

Good health is a blessing most of us take for granted. But when we encounter a child who suffers from a life threatening disease, it seems really unfair. Make-A-Wish offers a simple ray of sunshine to a child, and granting a wish helps a child fight harder to get well. Wishes granted range from the simple - a soft toy, to the slightly elaborate - becoming an assistant police commissioner for few hours! Make-A-Wish is rewarded each time it brings a smile on an ill child's face.

Choose from these and other causes by clicking here. Giving is a rewarding experience.

Help Your NGO is a Mumbai based organization that's striving to make the world of NGOs and charity giving more effective and transparent.
