July 2005... I was in my second year of engineering college. That was when stocks first caught my attention. I have been hooked ever since.

It took me about five years to find an investment philosophy that works for me. I explored many ideas during those early years...

Reading the ticker - Many of us, young and foolish, start our journey in the markets this way. I did. Thankfully, I soon discovered it's not even an investing strategy in the first place!

Cheap stocks - I got this bright idea from Ben Graham's book, The Intelligent Investor. I bought stocks trading at low PEs and below book value. It didn't take me long to realise that this strategy doesn't always work if you buy stocks one at a time. It works best as part a diversified portfolio. That's what Graham did. I wasn't interested in building a portfolio. So I dropped it.

(There's no doubt it's a very good strategy. Just look at Rahul Shah and his Microcap Millionaires service. Subscribers have benefited from an astonishing 88.2% outperformance of the Sensex since Rahul started using this strategy! Full details here.)
