Asian shares were muted as investors kept watch for possible intervention by Japanese authorities to stop the yen's decline.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 0.2 per cent.

US stocks closed mixed after a bouncy trading session on Tuesday. The moves come as investors bide their time until a key inflation report lands and potentially sheds light on the path of interest rates.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 268 points higher and NSE Nifty is trading 74 points higher.

BPCL, Bharti Airtel and Coal India are among the top gainers today.

Sun Pharma, Apollo Hospital and UltraTech Cement the other hand are among the top losers today.

Broader markets are trading on positive note. The BSE Midcap index is trading 0.6% higher and the BSE Small Cap index are trading 0.3% higher.

Barring healthcare stocks all other sectoral indices are trading positive, with socks in metal sector, realty sector and oil & gas sector witnessing buying.

The rupee is trading at Rs 83.23 against the US dollar.

In commodity markets, gold prices are trading marginally higher at Rs 71,435 per 10 grams today.

Meanwhile, silver prices are trading 0.3% lower at Rs 82,733 per 1 kg.

Paytm Bank's Top Level Exit

Paytm Payments Bank's Managing Director and CEO Surinder Chawla has tendered his resignation on 8 April. Chawla is stepping down, citing personal reasons to explore better career prospects. He will be relieved from PPBL on 26 June.

One 97 Communications stated again in the release to the stock exchanges that 'nearly all agreements between the company and PPBL have been terminated', and the board of Paytm Payments Bank has been reconstituted with five independent directors, including an Independent Chairperson, and no nominees from the company.

One 97 Communications said it continues to collaborate with banking partners to enhance merchant acquiring and UPI services.

On 31 January, the RBI imposed major business restrictions on PPBL, including a bar on accepting fresh deposits and doing credit transactions after 29 February. On 16 February, it extended the deadline to 15 March.

On 14 March, The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) approved One97 Communications Limited (OCL), Paytm's parent entity, to participate in UPI services as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP) under the multi-bank model.

The much-awaited license would allow Paytm to continue offering Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services to its app users after its banking unit Paytm Payment Bank Limited (PPBL) ceases operations post 15 March following regulatory action.

PB Fintech Incorporates Subsidiary

PB Fintech, the parent firm of the digital insurance platform Policybazaar, on 19 April 2023, announced that it has incorporated its wholly-owned subsidiary PB Pay Private.

Last month, the promoter of PB Fintech approved the incorporation.

PB Pay was created to conduct the business of a payment aggregator with a paid-up capital of Rs 270 m.

Payment aggregators enable their clients to accept various payment methods such as debit cards, credit cards, cardless EMIs, UPI, bank transfers, e-wallets and e-mandates.

Last month, PB Fintech said PB Pay Private Limited would be a non-banking finance company (NBFC) and carry on the business of payment aggregator-domestic and/or cross border or both, as may be permitted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Earlier in the day, Policybazaar and ICICI Lombard announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership. The new tie-up will combine the product portfolio of ICICI Lombard and the reach of Policybazaar and provide accessible insurance solutions to nearly 10 m customers.

Lupin launches Doxycycline capsules

Lupin said that it has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to launch the first generic version of Oracea (Doxycycline capsules, 40 mg) in the United States.

Doxycycline Capsules, 40 mg is indicated for the treatment of only inflammatory lesions (papules and pustules) of rosacea in adult patients.

According to IQVIA MAT February 2024, Doxycycline Capsules had estimated annual sales of US$ 128 million in the US.
