The BSE 200 index is designed to measure the performance of the top 200 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
These companies are usually from the largecap or midcap space. The number of companies present in the index remains fixed at 200.

What is the price of BSE 200 index live today?
The S&P BSE 200 last traded at 10,275.8. It was down 0.3% over its previous close.
Within the BSE-200, the top gainers were TECH MAHINDRA (up 7.3%) and CONTAINER CORPORATION (up 6.3%). On the other hand, L&T TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (down 7.8%) and BAJAJ FINANCE (down 7.7%) were among the top losers.

Can we buy the BSE 200?
The BSE 200 is a collection of stocks and not a security that is traded on any stock exchange. Hence, we cannot buy it directly.
However, there are ways in which one can invest in the BSE 200.
One can invest in index funds or ETFs representing the index or buying future and options for it.
Which are the other important indices one should track?
Well, it depends on what your goals are.
Having said that, the two key indices to track are the BSE Sensex which contains the list of BSE 30 stocks and the NSE Nifty which contains the list of NSE 50 stocks.
However, these two indices are considered to be too narrow by some, since they only track 30 and 50 stocks, respectively.
For broader tracking, you could use the BSE 200, BSE 500 or even the NSE 500 index.
Some popular market cap based indices include BSE Smallcap index and BSE Midcap index, among others.
